Swimmers for Swimmers

Many of us remember the devastation we all experienced during Hurricane Sandy here on Long Island. Can you imagine if you were away at school and lost everything? That’s what UNCW (University of North Carolina at Wilmington) Swimming and Diving team experienced recently during Hurricane Florence. Our own Team Suffolk alumni Zach Towers (class of 2015) recently transferred to UNCW to continue swimming after University at Buffalo cut their Men’s Swimming & Diving program. Only a few weeks into the training season all the students were forced to evacuate their homes away from home.  Some students were able to go home but others, like Zach, had to seek shelter at their teammate’s family homes a few hours inland. They had to wait and watch the news as the water level rose and winds increased. After 3 weeks of being displaced they have arrived back in Wilmington to find some of the homes flooded and all their belongings ruined.

We are asking for donations of gift cards to Target, Walmart, Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc. to help this team as they try to put together their homes and the remainder of their season. We will be having the Developmental team make cards for the team letting them know we are thinking about them. Coach Deidra, Coach John or Coach Frank will be accepting donations through the end of October.
